Pico Basile

Pico Basile or El Pico is a great volcano nearby Malabo. It is higher than 3.000 meters and is surrounded by magnificent rainforest. This rainforest is home to hundreds of species of mammals, reptiles, birds and plants.
This part of Bioko Island is a great mixture of different ecosystems – lowland rainforest, montane rainforest, schefflera forest and a grassland at the top of the mountain. These systems has a wide array of temperatures that range from over 30 degrees C to 3 degrees C at the top.
Pico Basile area is home to few very rare bird species - Fernando Po Speirops, Fernando Po Oliveback, Ursula’s Sunbird, Mountain Saw-wing and Great Blue Turaco.
From Pico Basile its sister mountain - Mount Cameroon (active volcano) can be seen.
Pico Basile is relatively close to the capital city and many animal species are hunted out, but some endangered species still can be seen – Preuss’s Guenon and Red-Eared Guenon.
