Plitvice Lakes

There are eight national parks in Croatia: Paklenica, Risnjak, Brioni, Mljet, Sjeverni Velebit, Krka, Kornati and Plitvice Lakes National Park. Plitvice Lakes National Park is one of the most visited tourist destinations in Croatia and one of the top five national parks in Europe. It has been declared by UNESCO as a World Heritage site in 1979. Its lavish nature, diverse flora and fauna leaves no one indifferent. It covers an area of 300 square kilometres. Plitvice Lakes are composed of approximately 20 interlinked lakes, divide into the upper and lower lakes and intersectes by beautiful, luxurious waterfalls. The largest waterfall is 70 metres high. This natural phenomenon is a real delight for the eyes. There is excellent road network and accommodation options. Four hotels are avilable to the visitors, Jezero, Plitvice, Bellevue, Grabovac, as well as two camps, Korana and Borje. There is also a wide selection of private accommodation in nearby villages. There are two entrances to the Park, northern called Entrance 1 and southern entrance called Entrance 2. Park is open daily all year round and there is an entrance fee. Plitvice Lakes are also popular tourist destination during the winter season, when you can enjoy skiing and snowboard in the park ski area.
