Mafia Island - Marine life

Mafia Island is famous for its colourful marine life. Island is home of first Tanzania’s marine park – Mafia Island Marine Park, which was established in 1995.
Mafia Island Marine Park covers most of Mafia Island and nearby inhabited islands of Bwejuu, Chole and Juani Jibondo.
Sea around Mafia Island is home to magnificent tropical marine habitat that includes coral reefs, mangroves, lagoons, sea grass beds and coastal forest. This is a place where Green and Hawksbill turtles nest. But, that’s not all, you will be able to see many other exotic marine animals like yellow-fin tuna, torpedo shaped tuna, loggerhead, leatherback, manta rays, swordfish, black marlins and wahoo. Main attractions are whale sharks, Humpback whales and dugongs, which can be seen rarely.
That’s why Mafia Island is a paradise for marine world lovers, scuba divers, snorkellers and fishermans.
